So. Trying this blogging business again. I'm horrible at putting down thoughts.
About sketching/drawing in pencil.
I used Derwent brand for this dragon. If you don’t know much about pencils and types I’ll give you a briefing in case you have a little up and coming artist at home and would like to encourage them or expand their experience.
Those letters/numbers you see on these pencils refers to the hardness of the graphite in them. Harder Pencils (with an H) will leave lighter markings and are great for sketching pictures out. The higher the number the harder the pencil graphite. Then you get HB which is a bit softer ( leaves darker lines) than your normal 2H pencil. After that there is B, these pencils are brittle/softer. They make darker & wider lines.
For most people a good range to start with is 4H to 4B.
These pencils do not include erasers, so make sure to buy a good eraser. I usually stick with Staedtler Mars plastic erasers.
Tip: Erasers tend to be a bit thick or awkward when needing to erase between really small places, so I cut them with a razor into thin triangles. I tend to get better control on what I erase.
For awhile I tried to get into drawing anime. It was a big thing, it seemed for me. I mean you go on dA and you see it everywhere, so I thought maybe you know. I should try to learn to draw like that.
Well I tried drawing hands, since it was my biggest issue when drawing people… then something hit me. Fuck that. That’s not who I am. There are enough people who draw anime, who are into that who have made it their thing, their scene, their style.
It’s not for me.
